CHARACTER INFO
Name: Joshua Rosfield
Canon: Final Fantasy XVI
Canon Point: At Origin, when the fragment of Ultima is torn from his body.
Age: 28
Species: Human
History: Link!
Personality:
✽ What is your character's main motivation? What drives them and keeps them going?
His brother, Clive. After Ifrit defeated him at Phoenix Gate, the Undying rescued him and kept him safe until he woke up from his comatose state five years later. Ever since then, he's been looking into what happened that night, and has discovered that Ultima is actively targeting his brother. He even sealed a fragment of Ultima inside of his body at the cost of his own already fragile health to keep his brother from being claimed. He would do anything for Clive, and is very highly protective of him despite Clive being his Shield.
✽ What is their biggest regret? Why?
His biggest regret is not being able to be there with Clive through his journey, instead sticking to the shadows with the Undying until he had no other choice. For so long, his brother thought that he was dead, and though he could easily have made his presence known and soothed that anguish, he did not. Even after Clive was aware that he was still alive, he continued to evade him, even though he would have loved nothing more than to be with him again.
✽ What is their worst fear? Their greatest comfort?
Worst Fear: Losing Clive to Ultima. Yes, the world is also at stake, but he is so fiercely protective of Clive when it comes to Ultima, and losing him would destroy him.
Greatest Comfort: Clive and Jill, the two most important people from his childhood that are still around. Major focus on Clive. Just having them nearby and well makes him feel like he's back at Rosalith again, before his whole world went to hell.
✽ Top three strengths?
- Clive.
- His sense of compassion for those around him.
- His goddamn unbreakable determination. Phoenixes can't be knocked down.
✽ Top three weaknesses?
- Clive.
- His naivety in certain social situations.
- Carrots. Blegh.
✽ What was their last lie?
Keeping everything from Clive for so long. It's more a lie of omission, but it's still a lie. He could have let Clive know that he was still alive, but he didn't, and even after Clive knew he continued to remain hidden.
Inventory:
- The clothes on his back.
- His rapier and dagger.
- A small box of medicine vials.
Abilities: As the Dominant of the Phoenix, Joshua has access to its fire and restorative abilities.
- Healing: What it says on the tin. It looks a little like he's conjuring fire in his palm, but it's healing, I promise. He can heal both small and large wounds, but larger wounds take a considerable amount of energy and leave him exhausted.
- Fire: He can summon fire to his hands, both for light and for attacking purposes. This includes the four Fire spells (Fire, Fira, Firaga, Firaja, in order of strength) as well as creating plumes of flame and wrapping himself/his blade in flame.
- Shields: Joshua can put up shields to deflect attacks, and has been shown to block fairly powerful blows. Though, like his healing, the more power he has to put into his shields, the harder it is on him.
- Feathers/Imprisonment??: I honestly do not know what to call this but this title will suffice. He was able to use his powers to trap a fragment of Ultima inside of his own body by scattering feathers in a circle on the ground and luring Ultima to stand inside of it, at which point he activated it and manifested a cage with bars made of flame. Ultima specifically noted that they were not harmful flames, so they do not seem to be capable of doing any damage. The cage of flames holds the entity inside of it, and then funnels that entity into Joshua's chest. One of Joshua's feathers was also able to stay with Clive, acting as a sort of homing beacon to tell Clive if he was nearby.
- Semi-Priming: The ability to go into a sort of halfway state between his normal self and his Phoenix self. He's still humanoid, but looks very, uh. Fire-y? And has long Phoenix plumes trailing from his back. In this state, his magic is more powerful, though not as powerful as his fully primed state. The downside is that he cannot maintain this state for long.
- Priming: All Dominants can Prime, or shift from their normal body into the form of their Eikon. So, Joshua Primes into the Phoenix! The Phoenix is also very big, as Eikons tend to be. When in the Phoenix state, his magic is at its peak, but being in this state also risks quickening the crystal's curse (aka getting slowly petrified to death). This is only a state that he uses in dire circumstances. Priming can also happen involuntarily in the case of an extremely traumatic event.
